.. Bonjour et bienvenue à tous, Pour commencer, voici un rapide aperçu de mon parcours musical. J'ai eu l'opportunité de participer aux premières parties de concerts de John Mc Laughlin, Larry Coryell, Magma, Marcel Dadi, Birelli Lagrenne, Alain Caron... J'ai collaboré aux master classes du festival international de guitare d'Issoudun. Après avoir joué avec Juan Carmona (http://www.juancarmona.com/ et http://www.myspace.com/juancarmona), j'ai participé à de nombreux groupes (Quartiers Nord, Eclat, Guitares en trio...) avec lesquels j'ai enregistré de nombreux disques et me suis produit en France, aux Etats-Unis et au Japon. Plus récemment, j'ai formé un quartet avec Phlippe d'Ercole (titulaire d'une médaille d'or du conservatoire (www.fildercole.com) à la batterie, Jael Travère à la basse ( http://www.myspace.com/jaeldeepbassplayer) et Adeline Macé aux claviers. Ce quartet jouait des compositions originales orientées jazz, blues et fusion. Actuellement, je me consacre essentiellement à l'écriture et à la composition, avec, notamment, la participation talentueuse de Thierry Massé aux claviers. Thierry joue aussi dans Quartiers Nord et Eclat. C'est un musicien de premier ordre dont je suis fier de la collaboration. Je réponds aussi aux invitations de musiciens très divers. Philippe Troïsi, par exemple, m'a invité sur son disque Harmonia maudit (Fûgû "Harmonia maudit", Musea records). Ecoutez-le, vous m'en direz des nouvelles. Il y a quelques mois, Askol ( http://www.myspace.com/askolmusik ) m'a embarqué dans une nouvelle aventure. J'y ai participé avec amitié et enthousiasme. Actuellement, je collabore à l'enregistrement de deux cds. L'un est dirigé par Rod, chanteur et bassiste d'un groupe d'outre-Atlantique et le second est un concept album dirigé par Filou et Jeannot, deux chanteurs enthousiastes et enthousiasmants. Je reviendrai sur ces deux expériences lorsqu'elles seront achevées. J'envisage aussi de monter un groupe. Nam, rencontré par hasard dans un studio d'enregistrement un jour que j'enregistrais une guitare, sera aux claviers. Mai 2009 : Voilà, Filou, Jeannot et moi avons terminé l'enregistrement d'un concept album !! L'album de Thëus Grüpü est en écoute sur un site dédié. Hi, and welcome everyone, First of all, here is a a short summary of my musical experience. I had the opportunty to participate in playing as guest of John Mc Laughlin, Larry Coryell, Magma, Marcel Dadi, Birelli Lagrenne, Alain Caron's concerts and many others. I appeared during the master classes of Issodun international guitar festival. After playing with Juan Carmona (http://www.juancarmona.com/), I was involved in lots of groups (such as Quartiers Nord, Eclat, Guitares en trio...). Thus, I recorded many discs and played in France, in the United States and in Japan. More lately, I founded a quartet with the drummer Philippe d'Ercole (awarded of an academy (conservatoire's gold medal)(www.fildercole.com), Jael Travère on bass (http://www.myspace.com/jaeldeepbassplayer) and Adeline Macé ..boards. This quartet played some odd compositions of jazz, blues and fusion. Nowadays, I am focusing on writing and composing especially thanks to the talentful Thierry Massé's participation playing on the keyboards to. Thierry also plays with Quartier Nord and Eclat. I'm very proud to had the chance to get the collaboration of such a so gifted musician. I also answer to many musicians'invitations. For example, Philipe Troïsi invited me to participate to his very last disc Harmonia maudit (Fûgû "Harmonia maudit", Musea records). Just listen to it, it's amazing. A few months ago, Askol ( http://www.myspace.com/askolmusik ) proposed me a new adventure. I joined this experience with all my friendship and my enthousiasm. Nowadays, I record two cds : one is Rod's project (he is singer and bassist) and the other is directed by Filou and Jeannot, two singers that are involved with great enthousiasm in a concept album I'll tell you more when these cds are ready for the audience. I also plan to have a band to play live. I met Nam, who will plays keyboards, in a studio, when I was recording a guitar. May 2009 : The new album Filou, Jeannot et me worked to is ended. Elle s'appelle "Tony W.", et vous n'avez sans doute pas besoin que j'en commente le titre, n'est-ce-pas ? Compo jazzy dans une version courte : les chorus ne sont pas développés. Je pense la mettre en ligne dans les heures qui viennent. Bonne écoute. Chose promise... ... chose due. Voici donc Tony W., dans une nouvelle version. Cette compo, comme "Athos", a été revue et rejouée récemment pour figurer dans ce site. Certaines contraintes techniques m'ont imposé une compression des fichiers et ont, donc, un peu amoindri la qualité sonore. C'est pour cette raison que j'ai enlevé "Samourai" et '"Jaune". Ces deux enregistrements, très anciens, ceux-là, n'étaient vraiment pas servis par le format mp3. Merci de votre visite. ............................................................................................................................... 28 déc 2007 Comment choisit-on les titres ? Hier, on m'a demandé d'où me sont venus les titres des deux compos actuellement en écoute. Je ne m'en souviens pas exactement. "Athos" date d'il y a environ trois ans. J'ai composé cette pièce en quelques jours, sur ma nouvelle acoustique. Sur celle-là sonnaient des accords que mes précédentes cordes nylon ne rendaient pas aussi bien parce que la lutherie n'atteignait pas ce niveau d'excellence. En la jouant, des images de films historiques me sont venus à l'esprit, notamment les "Duellistes" de Ridley Scott. Par ailleurs, la phonétique du nom de ce mousquetaire me paraissait cohérente avec ces éléments musical et filmographique. Donc, ce titre a été adopté. "Tony W." est une composition plus ancienne. Je l'ai écrite très rapidement, en deux ou trois jours. Ma profonde admiration pour Tony Williams a déterminé cette dédicace. Je profite de cette occasion pour dire tout le bien du disque de Simon Phillips "Another Lifetime" dont le titre a été, si ma mémoire est bonne, choisi du fait de la disparition de Tony Williams. ........................................................................................................................................ 29 déc 2007 La guitare en photo Cette guitare n'est pas une Gibson mais elle y ressemble beaucoup, c'est vrai. Il s'agit d'une Jacobacci réalisée au début des années 70 par les frères Jacobacci, luthiers à Paris. Je l'ai rachetée à un musicien qui s'en séparait après avoir pris la décision de quitter la musique pour se lancer dans le sport mécanique (les courses de motos, plus précisément). Je me souviens qu'il m'ait dit "Quand tu prends un bon virage, c'est comme quand tu fais un bon chorus." N'ayant jamais pris un bon virage, je ne peux pas apprécier la justesse de cette comparaison... de plus, comme me le susurre placidement Jiminy Cricket, pour pouvoir comparer, il faudrait aussi que j'aie fait un bon chorus ;-). ...................................................................................................................................... 30 déc 2007 Incipit Dernière compo de l'année sur ce blog, à la demande de plein de copains ! Plein, c'est-à-dire trois ou quatre. Je ne me souviens plus exactement. Les grands nombres, ça me perd toujours. "Incipit", c'est une compo qui est partie d'un plan tout simple que j'ai sorti quelques fois lorsque je rencontrais de nouveaux musiciens. On jouait dessus, ce n'était pas très compliqué. Puis, progressivement, j'ai trouvé un thème, simple, lui aussi, et un pont où l'harmonie est un peu plus tordue. La fin en ad lib est un peu facile, peut-être, mais je n'en ai toujours pas trouvé une autre qui me satisfasse vraiment. C'est Philippe d'Ercole qui m'a suggéré ce titre, et, par la même occasion, qui m'a appris ce que cela voulait dire. Merci, Philippe ! .......................................................................................................................................... 31 décembre La guitare sur la photo (suite) à propos de cette guitare, je me souviens d'une anecdote terrible. j'étais lycéen à l'époque, autant dire que c'était dans une autre vie, et je voulais une double manche. il y en avait une dans la vitrine d'un magasin de musique devant lequel je passais une fois par jour, en bus, en rentrant à la maison. donc, un jour, je vais devant la vitrine et je l'admire pendant un moment. c'était une Ibanez blanche, 6 et 12 cordes, avec des dorures sur les mécaniques et les caches des micros. j'entre et je demande au marchand de l'essayer. il me dit : "non. j'ai peur que tu la salisses." quelques jours plus tard, deux ou trois semaines après environ, un copain, qui nous enregistrait pendant les répets et qui nous faisait le son en concerts, passe dans ce magasin pour acheter quelques accessoires, des jacks je crois. et là, il voit un type entrer avec une grosse housse. le gars s'adresse au marchand et lui dit qu'il a une double manche rarissime, une Jacobacci, et qu'il veut s'en séparer. le marchand bondit de derrière son comptoir, il dit qu'il la veut, etc., etc. Mon pote sort discrètement du magasin et attend le type qui sort lui aussi quelques minutes après. Il lui dit qu'il vaut mieux vendre la gratte à un particulier qu'à un marchand parce que le prix sera plus intéressant. l'autre en convient et lui laisse son numéro de téléphone... bref, j'achète une guitare dont je n'aurais même pas osé rêver. le seul problème, c'était la housse, en sale état, vraiment. j'ai pensé que le mieux à faire, c'était d'en acheter une toute neuve. pour être sûr qu'elle soit suffisamment grande pour contenir une double manche, je suis descendu en ville avec la guitare et je suis allé dans un magasin. vous voyez lequel ? ................................................................................................................................................. 2 Janvier. La guitare sur la photo, suite de la suite Hé non, je ne l'ai plus. Il a suffi que je la mette en photo sur myspace pour qu'on se dispute pour me l'acheter. c'est un peu étonnant parce que je n'ai pas trouvé d'acheteur il y a quelques années, lorsque je l'ai mise en vente. je m'attendais à un raz de marée, étant donné la réputation des frères Jacobacci, au moins au niveau national... mais, non ! pas un seul acheteur potentiel après plusieurs annonces dans des sites spécialisés et plusieurs semaines d'attente. j'allais me résigner à la garder dans sa housse lorsqu'un courriel m'est parvenu, de la part... d'un conservateur de musée !!! évidemment, ça m'a fichu un coup, je ne me suis pas senti très jeune. mais, bon, pourquoi pas ?.. donc le contact a été pris et j'ai vendu cette double manche au musée des musiques populaires de Montluçon. je ne sais pas si elle y est exposée. j'imagine que oui. elle y est mieux que dans une housse, à l'étroit et dans le noir. mais j'aurais tout de même préféré la laisser à un musicien. je pense qu'une guitare doit être jouée. pourquoi, dans ce cas, ne l'ai-je pas jouée moi-même ? sans doute parce que je l'avais trop pratiquée, je la connaissais par coeur et je recherchais un autre son. sûrement aussi parce que je n'avais pas les moyens d'acquérir une autre guitare sans apport financier, hélas. parce que, on l'aura compris, je n'ai pas l'âme d'un collectionneur. et enfin, me glisse à l'oreille mon criquet préféré, parce qu'un heure de concert impliquait trois séances de kiné. vous pouvez l'entendre dans un ou deux disques, je ne me souviens plus, d'Eclat, où j'utilise la douze cordes dont l'effet est assez magique, je trouve. ................................................................................................................................... 3 Janvier. Bon, question Jacobacci, il faut que je vous dise que j'ai longtemps joué sur un autre modèle, une copie de la Gibson Lespaul, c'était le modèle "Studio 3". elle était équipée de trois micros Benedetti. au bout de quelques années, j'en ai fait enlever deux pour les remplacer par des di Marzio, au son plus chaud et plus péchu. il y avait un truc sympa et original sur cette guitare, c'était la position "prise directe". il s'agissait d'un switch qui permettait de bypasser le circuit classique des potentiomètres de volume et de tonalité pour envoyer directement le son des micros à l'ampli. on gagnait en dynamique. c'est une idée qui n'est plus fréquemment retenue, et c'est dommage parce qu'en chorus, par exemple, cette possibilité booste légèrement le son de la guitare ce qui est très utile. par ailleurs cela permet de jouer tranquillement sans s'inquiéter de ce qu'un mouvement incontrôlé du poignet ne touche le potentiomètre de volume, par exemple, et affecte donc le signal.... cette guitare a connu la même destinée que la double manche. à l'heure où j'écris ces lignes, elles sont peut-être l'une à côté de l'autre, bien tranquilles, dans une vitrine d'un musée de province. bon... bien tranquilles, c'est bien, mais, tout de même, c'est pas une vie pour un instrument de musique, non ? .................................................................................................................................... 4 Janvier. Un jour, après un concert, on était à table avec Marcel Dadi, et je lui disais qu'après avoir passé mes premières années de pratique de la guitare acoustique sur une folk, j'avais été peu à peu séduit par les cordes nylon. il faut vous dire que j'ai été surtout par le jeu d'un guitariste qui s'en servait admirablement, il faudra que je vous en parle un jour. donc, je disais à Marcel que je trouvais ce type de guitare beaucoup plus expressif parce que les cordes nylon permettent l'expression d'un éventail bien plus large d'effets et de nuances que les cordes métal. le seul moment désagréable, mais très désagréable, c'est quand il faut les changer. là, il faut de la patience et de la persévérance parce que la note n'est pas juste aussi rapidement qu'avec une folk. et puis, c'est pénible de changer des cordes nylon. il y a un espèce de noeud coulant à faire d'un côté pendant qu'on augmente la tension de l'autre, ce serait si simple si elles avaient une boule comme les cordes folk (je sais que certains jeux proposent ce système mais ils ne m'ont pas convaincu) ... bref, c'est une véritable corvée, pour moi du moins. Marcel m'a bien écouté puis m'a demandé comment je m'y prenais exactement pour tendre les cordes parce que, d'après lui, il n'était pas normal de devoir attendre aussi longtemps pour qu'elles gardent leur tension définitive. il m'a conseillé une façon légèrement différente de celle à laquelle j'étais accoutumé : il m'a dit de passer deux fois (!) la corde dans l'axe de la mécanique avant de bloquer la corde et de la tendre. deux fois, cela ne me semblait pas possible. mais il avait raison : les trois cordes non filées peuvent être manipulées ainsi et la tension se stabilise beaucoup plus tôt. :) .............................................................................................................................................. 5 Janvier. Myspace et le home studio Oui, c'est bien beau d'avoir son blog, on est content, on se dit que plein de gens savent qu'on existe, et tout et tout. mais on y passe du temps, non ? ça me rappelle ce que m'a dit Juanito Carmona, il y a quelques mois, quand je lui ai parlé de mon équipement récent qui me permet d'enregistrer des maquettes. il m'a dit "Fais attention, parce que ça prend du temps et tu te retrouves à bouger la souris pendant des heures et à en oublier la guitare." ce n'est pas faux, je trouve. et si on ajoute au home studio la gestion du blog, on n'a même plus à passer un diplôme d'ingé-son-informaticien tellement on est devenu fort... je vais me recentrer sur la musique, la vraie, autrement dit celle qui existe quand on la joue et pas autrement. sinon je vais avoir l'impression de faire du sport en regardant la télé. cette idée me fait penser à une belle phrase écrite par Rüdiger Safranski dans sa préface à l'ouvrage qu'il a consacré à Nietzsche. je la cite de mémoire parce que je ne retrouve plus le bouquin. "La pensée est le masque mortuaire du penser." autrement dit, ce qui est énoncé, et donc figé dans une formulation particulière est inerte et représente un instantané de l'acte pur (le "penser") qui, lui, est pur mouvement ininterrompu. c'est magnifique ! je vous propose, à l'avenir, pour ne pas risquer de devenir un embaumeur de notes, un rendez-vous hebdomadaire...
