.. .... Barrio Kingdom was formed in 2004 by Bob, Cotti and Nick. The band's sound originates in DnB, dub, dance hall and grime rock. Soon after Barrio was created MC Lux joined and the band went on the road. Barrio played wherever there was a sound system! Including a road trip to Fusion festival in Germany. However it became apparent that the sound of the band needed to evolve, the search was on for another vocalist. Yaz joined the band in 2006 and brought to the mix a soulful kick in the face! Once again Barrio were out playing gigs in Bristol and London. In 2008 Yaz left the band and Bristol to pursue a career in art and married life in London. After a year of change Barrio Kingdom have a new line up with fresh and exciting new material. Avid followers of the Bristol music scene will know Teph, Barrio's new vocalist and would have seen her perform as the lead vocalist for Dubrovnik in recent times. As a highly experienced and professional performer Teph brings her excellent songwriting skills to this already excellent band... The result is spellbinding. If you haven't seen Barrio Kingdom or you saw the old line up, this is a must see band.......... .... ..WHAT THE REVIEWERS HAVE SAID......................... .. The thing I loved about Barrio Kingdom the minute I saw them, and began to listen to their music, was how everything about them howled out 'Bristol' to me in an instant. This band, though as much from Bristol as all the previous acts, seem to have encapsulated the essence of the city they love more than any other. The reason why is difficult to explain. It could be many reasons, but I believe it's the guttural hard hitting 'umph' you get the minute they begin that makes me believe it. Basically, this band has balls. With an incredibly accomplished set of musicians, cohesive in all respects. .. It's impossible not to get up and dance to this band, or dislike them. You have this sense that they know what they want, and how they can get it, and won't give up on finding it. If I wanted to see a band that defined all the elements of the city I lived in, being Bristol, this is the one. You can't help feeling you have stumbled on a band that lives and breathes it completely and can reflect it back at you with real guts in a way you can enjoy and dance to. What could be better? Go see them. They will rock your ass off.
