SMACK é, talvez, a banda mais cult saída do pós-punk paulista nos anos 80. A pauleira concisa, as letras e vocais dilacerantes, as guitarras estridentes e afiadas, o ritmo pulsante e gorgulhante de veia aorta aberta por cortes de uma navalha anfetaminada e a química entre os músicos. Tudo isso esteve ali, nos raros shows que o quarteto fez entre 84 e 86, todos no underground de São Paulo – exceto um único show no interior, em Rio Claro, junto com o Ira!.

O grupo, formado por Pamps (vocais, guitarra), Edgard Scandurra (guitarra, vocais), Sandra Coutinho (baixo, vocais) e Thomas Pappon (bateria), lançou dois álbuns e sumiu por vários anos. Recentemente tem voltado aos palcos, é um dos destaques da coletânea "The Sexual Life of the Savages – Underground Post-Punk From São Paulo", lançada pelo selo britânico Soul Jazz, em 2005, e está em fase de produção de um álbum de músicas inéditas.

SMACK is one of the coolest bands from the now legendary post-punk scene born in the São Paulo underground during the early 80’s. They recorded two albums (Ao Vivo no Mosh and Noite e Dia), vanished for a long time and have been making a very slow come back. They are featured with three songs in the compilation The Sexual Life of the Savages – Underground Post-Punk From São Paulo, Brazil, releaseed in 2005 by the british label Soul Jazz. Smack is probably the only Brazilian band featured in the american Trouser Press Guide, the “bible” of alternative rock:

"Into a slightly postdated style blended from turn-of-the-decade new wave funk and jagged-edge guitar pop (imagine a jittery Gang of Four singing more melodically in Portuguese) this Brazilian quartet acknowledges its own culture with an occasional tropical dance rhythm. Despite the language barrier, Ao Vivo No Mosh's excitingly adrenalized playing, tuneful vocals and simply effective drumming make it something Northern Hemisphere post-punks would have no trouble understanding."
