Biografia
Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 1981, his musical interest is something that runs in his mother’s side of the family, since his grandfather, Jose “Pepe” Hosiasson, is a very renowned jazz critic in Santiago, Chile. At the age of 8, he started piano lessons with his brother, which were fascinating at first, but it didn’t take long for Alvaro to want to move on to a more “rocker” instrument. After 5 years of piano, he started to take guitar lessons in his neighborhood music school. Alvaro recollects: "I vividly remember the first time my teacher played the solo of “Stairway to Heaven”, a cliche, but VERY effective on a 13 year-old boy, and so I decided I wanted to play that instrument for ever..." His path, however, was not directed towards music just yet. After getting a big “NO” when he asked his father if he could go study music at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, he found something else that he also liked: economics. In 2004, Alvaro Graduated top of his class from Ibmec Business School, today the top Business School in Brazil, getting a full-time job in Unibanco, the third largest bank in the country In the meantime, he had been constantly playing in bands since High School, and the bands were doing great. He was playing all over Sao Paulo, had recorded albums, was even starting to be recognized as a somewhat famous musician, which made him very happy. After taking guitar lessons with the same teacher for about 12 years, they became very close friends and would just jam every week and feed of each other. Alvaro also started taking Drum lessons and Tenor Saxophone lessons and even bought a Sax. By the end of 2005, he was in four bands, one of which he was the drummer, playing shows 4, sometimes 5 nights every week. However, in the beginning of 2006, as his job became more demanding, he had less time to dedicate to music. And that started to create a weigh on his back, something he quickly noticed to be a turning point in his life. Against all his friends’ advice, Alvaro decided to drop it all, forget about the promising career and simply go after what he always felt was his calling. He got married to his then fiance in August of 2006 and was ready to move on to the next stage of his life. They were moving to Boston, where Alvaro had been accepted at Berklee. Graduated in 2010 Magna Cum Laude with 3 majors, Music Business, Film Scoring and Pro-Music/Performance, he was awarded the Berklee Achievement Scholarship for his outstanding involvement with the school. At Berklee, he was able to develop his musicianship into a new level, always playing in studio sessions and bands. Today, besides Project K-Paz, Alvaro is the guitar player for Tom Howie, and is always looking for other side projects. In 2010, Alvaro was the Artistic Director, with partner Tom Howie, of the St. Barth Summer Sessions, which marks his official entry in the roster of players in the Music Business. Currently residing in Boston, MA, he teaches at the School of Groove, as well as privately, and dedicates to his music on a full-time basis. But where his heart truly lies in in the spontaneity of Project K-Paz, which is the culmination of Alvaro's musical ambitions into an ever-growing and passionate adventure... -
